American Junkie Retractable Roof Project #4686 Project Description

The “Wow Factor” is an important part of the plan when architects are designing a stunning restaurant and nightclub to attract Chicago’s young and hip professionals.  The theme of the American Junkie Restaurant and Night Club is “paying tribute to all things American.” The open-air dance floor under a 30 ft. X 30 ft. retractable roof  celebrates Americana and Chicago’s night life with a chic atmosphere and fantastic views of the skyline. Guests are dancing under the stars on clear nights and the wow factor hasn’t lost any of its luster.

Chicago’s “Windy City’s”  reputation for changing lake-effect weather makes open-air dance floors in night clubs with skyline views tricky design terrain.  The client’s ideas gave us many needs to consider wrapped in a welcome challenge.  The retractable roof material would need to be crystal clear so the view would be crystal clear and unobstructed from the 30’ x 30’ rooftop enclosure when it was closed. The best option was  to use one-inch thick glass instead of polycarbonate. Glass is heavier than polycarbonate, but it provides the insulation needed with the desired crystal clear view.

The frame needed to be custom painted to match the club’s décor and the entire structure had to be easy to operate by the busy night club staff.  The project team selected a wall-mounted electronic operating system, to open and close the entire structure with a simple push of a button.   Libart’s array of custom colors offered just the right hue for the custom-painted framework.  From start to finish, the project took just over a year to complete – a good and expected timetable for a large-scale commercial projects like this.

simliar-projectsEvery Libart project like this one is custom designed, so our client’s needs are a routine part of our design process. We unite the pieces of the puzzle to create an impressive and beneficial product.  This was an exciting, edgy project and American Junkie patrons love it.  Libart recognizes and embraces its challenges to propose and create solutions that impress and satisfy its customers.  On equal footing is Libart’s responsibility to impress the customer’s customers!
